Garage door seal repair for roof rats

Roof rats and other pests squeeze under and around worn garage door seals and corners. I repair and harden garage door seals so they're rodent- and pest-proof.

Bottom corner of a garage door where the worn seal leaves a gap at the frame

A worn seal is a way in

Most people picture roof rats coming in at the roofline, and many do. But the garage door is one of the easiest ways in at ground level. Over time the bottom seal wears, tears or flattens, and the corners where the door meets the frame open up. A roof rat only needs a gap about the size of a quarter.

Once they're in the garage, rats can reach the rest of the house. Mice, roaches and other pests use the same gaps.

A service I developed myself

Garage door seal repair and hardening is a service I developed myself, and not many people know it exists. I can improve the seal on any garage door so it's rodent- and pest-proof. You keep the door you have, and the work is done with commercial-grade, exterior-rated materials.

  • Works on any garage door
  • The bottom seal and both corners
  • Often part of a full roof rat exclusion
  • No poison, ever

Part of a full roof rat exclusion

When I seal a home for roof rats, the garage door is one of the entry points I check, along with roof returns, soffits, vents and AC line openings. It can also be done on its own if the garage is where you're seeing signs.

Garage door seal FAQ

Can roof rats really get in under a garage door?

Yes. Roof rats are good climbers, but they come in low too. A worn bottom seal or an open corner where the door meets the frame is an easy way into the garage, and from there into the rest of the house.

Do I need a new garage door?

No. I work on the door you already have, and repair and harden its seal so it's rodent- and pest-proof.

Does this work on any garage door?

Yes. I can improve the seal on any garage door.

Is this part of roof rat exclusion?

It often is. When I seal a home for roof rats, the garage door is one of the entry points I check. It can also be done on its own.
