Every way in

Every way a roof rat gets in

Roof rats come out at night, climb palms, trees and wires, and slip into small gaps along the roofline.

Every common entry point is listed below the picture.

All 8 entry points, as a list
  1. Palms and limbs touching the roof

Roof rats climb palms, branches and utility wires at night to reach the roof. Trimming back anything that touches the roof cuts off the route, and with every gap sealed there's nowhere left to go.

  2. Gable vents

A thin or torn vent screen is an easy way into the attic for a climbing roof rat. The vent gets screened with stainless steel mesh, so air keeps flowing and rats stay out.

  3. Roof vents and ridge

Roof rats are light on their feet and squeeze under loose vent edges and ridge caps. Each vent is screened and sealed with stainless steel mesh and exterior-grade materials, without blocking airflow.

  4. Roof returns and eave gaps

Where two rooflines meet there's often a small open pocket at the eave, and it's one of the most common ways a roof rat walks into the attic. Each return is closed for good with stainless steel mesh and exterior-grade materials, finished to match the roofline.

  5. Soffit gaps and vents

Roof rats travel the roof edge at night and slip in where a soffit panel has sagged or a vent screen has torn. Gaps are closed and vents re-screened with stainless steel mesh, so the attic still breathes.

  6. AC line set and wall penetrations

The AC line set works like a ladder, and the hole where it enters the wall is often bigger than the lines. The opening is sealed around the lines with stainless steel mesh and an exterior-grade finish.

  7. Plumbing and pipe holes

Pipes, conduit and cables often pass through the stucco with open space around them. Every opening is closed with stainless steel mesh and sealed with exterior-grade material that holds up to Florida weather.

  8. Garage door corners and weather seal

Worn bottom seals and gaps at the door corners give roof rats a way into the garage, and from there into the attic. The corners are sealed and the weather seal brought tight with exterior-grade materials made for Florida heat.

About Seal Em Out

Your exclusion specialist

Seal Em Out was built on one simple idea: you shouldn't have to keep paying to manage a problem that can be solved for good.

Most pest control treats the symptom. I go after the cause: finding every gap, crack and entry point and sealing it with commercial-grade materials. No poisons. No recurring treatments. No wildlife harmed.

I've been sealing rodents out since 2001. In 2005 I opened the first dedicated exclusion company in Connecticut, at a time when most of the industry said a completely rodent-proof home was impossible. In 2025 I started Seal Em Out and adapted the same approach to Southwest Florida's challenges: roof rats in attics, snakes in garages, bats in soffits, and the occasional scorpion.

Today some of the largest pest control companies in the country call Seal Em Out for their toughest exclusion jobs. And I work directly with homeowners who want lasting protection without poison.

Most pest control stops at treatment. I stop the problem at the source.

What I seal out

Roof Rats

The rat in a Southwest Florida attic is almost always a roof rat. I find how they get in, let them out, and seal it for good.

Rat exclusion: Roof Rats

Bats & Squirrels

Bats in the soffits or squirrels in the roofline. They leave on their own through one-way exits, then I seal every gap so they can't come back.

Snakes, Iguanas & More

Custom barriers that keep snakes, iguanas and cane toads out of yards, pools and lanais. Raccoons, birds and others get the same poison-free approach.

Our process

Four steps, one job, done right.

Why sealing works and poison doesn't

Poison doesn't fix the gaps. It kills the rodents that are there today, and the openings that let them in stay open. New rodents follow the same scent trails in to fill the space. That's the vacuum effect, and it's why poison turns into a bill you pay again and again.

Exclusion fixes the cause. Every entry point is found and closed with stainless steel and exterior-grade materials, so nothing gets back in. When trapping is needed, it's indoor traps only, used together with the sealing, never on its own and never outdoors.

I have always been poison-free. That keeps your family, your pets, and the owls and hawks that hunt rodents safe.
